1 - The Mission of this Blog
I'm writing this blog to record some of my thoughts about the pursuit of writing fiction— specifically my personal pursuit of writing fiction. I do hope that some of what I say will be more broadly applicable, and I'd be very happy if any readers derive some insight from my thoughts or find some solidarity in my experience. But this blog is not writing advice, nor really even writing process advice. I plan to cover some topics that are well-trod in the writing advice space, but when I do, I'll be approaching them from a strictly non-advisory angle. I won't try to make a comprehensive study, nor will I pretend to be in conversation with the larger body of work that exists out there on any given topic; I'll only talk about its role in my writing pursuit. In fact, for a lot of the posts with one-or-two-word titles, you can assume an implied, longer title that goes like "The Role of [title] in my Writing Pursuit."
This blog is intended to be read in linear order because the topics will often follow one to the other and many posts will build upon one or more previous posts. In the next post, I'll start by defining what I even mean by the 'pursuit' of writing fiction.
I have a lot of ideas for posts, but it's probable that I'll eventually run out of things to say within this framework. The blog having then run up against the limits of its narrow objective, I'll need to change gears if I want to continue writing. Maybe at that point I'll get around to talking about what's actually in all these books and stories I like to write and read so much.
